SNOW Will Make Your Supply Chain Greener
Monday January 26, 2009
The SNOW I am referring to is IBM’s new Supply Chain Network Optimization Workbench. It was created by IBM’s China Research Laboratory and is designed to help clients understand the environmental impact of their supply chain. This allows them to optimize decisions for cost, service levels and lower CO2 emissions.
The SNOW tool examines five major logistics areas; Products, Sourcing, Production, Warehousing and Transportation. The tool evaluates the impacts of CO2 emissions in each of the areas, which then can be analyzed and acted upon. The SNOW tool is one of several services IBM offers for companies who are focusing on Corporate Social Responsibility, often referred to as CSR. Other IBM services include the Carbon Tradeoff Modeler, CSR Assessment and Benchmarking Utility, Environmental Product Lifecycle Management and a Lean Six Sigma product called Green Sigma.
