Shipments To The US Rise Again In May
Wednesday June 17, 2009
According to Panjiva, the online resource for information on suppliers around the world, there was an increase in the number of manufacturers shipping to the US. Although the rise was only 2%, this is the third increase in as many months and notably this is the first occurrence since Panjiva began tracking this back in July 2007. Panjiva’s research team also found that there was a decline in manufacturers on their watch list, which was the first time since September 2008. Of course every glimmer of hope for recovery must be tempered with indications that the global supply chain is still severely depressed. A 2% increase in shipping to the US is a step in the right direction, but this indicates that a full recovery will take a long time. In addition Panjiva point out that there is still high levels of risk in the supply chain with supplier bankruptcies likely to continue. .
