Revenues And Profits Fall For Logistics Company

Tuesday July 21, 2009
Werner Enterprises is an Omaha, Nebraska based premier transportation and Logistics Company, with coverage throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Asia, Europe and South America. They just announced their second quarter results which were sharply below Wall Street's expectations. Werner’s profit dropped 30 percent on lower revenue and shipping volumes. Werner posted a profit of $12.7 million but revenue’s dropped 30 percent, to $403.1 million. Their trucking revenue fell 16 percent, and value added services revenue declined 25 percent.

To reduce cost and improve profit, Werner has cut its fleet size by ten percent and is trying to diversify its business by reducing its medium-to-long-haul van fleet and expanding its regional fleet.

The Werner fleet consists of more than 8,000 tractors, almost 25,000 trailers and over 14,000 employees. The fleet is made up of late model equipment and Werner is the only carrier with DOT approval to provide a paperless logging system.
