Microsoft has been on a ERP buying spree again. This week it announced that is has purchased four industry specific ERP products to be rolled into its Microsoft Dynamics AX suite. The four products include a process manufacturing suite, professional services software and two retail software products. The AX suite began with the 2002 acquisition of Navision, but critics say that the constant addition of small systems is making the product unwieldy and incapable of competing with Oracle and SAP. The process manufacturing software is from Fullscope, a company that specializes in customizing Microsoft's Dynamics AX. The software adds capability for manufacturing processes that are not compatible with discrete components, such as formulas for food and chemical products. The retail software was purchased from two companies, LSRetail and To-Increase Denmark. It adds new features for retailers, including store management, point-of-sale and merchandising. The professional services suite was procured from Computer Generated Solutions which will manage resources, execute financial transactions and bill customers. The manufacturing and professional systems are immediately available to AX customers.
