When talking to a eco-conscious manufacturer recently I was told about a product that is a must for companies wanting to package their products with the greenest packaging materials possible. The product is called EarthBoard, by SmartPlanet Technologies, based here in Orange County, California. It is a mineral-based, 100% recycled fiberboard composite material which is uses natural minerals to create a bright white print surface and barrier properties to water, oil, grease and fatty acids. It is designed to provide an eco-smart alternative to bleached white virgin fibers and is available in a variety of calipers and in roll stock or sheet form.

EarthBoard comes in a number of varieties and is FDA compliant for direct contact with food. It reduces the use of polyethylene in barrier coatings for food packaging. The makers of EarthBoard ensure clients that no harmful bleaching agents used, no Formaldehyde is used and using EarthBoard exceeds ISRI standards for recyclability.
