A report by IFS North America, a Milwaukee based software manufacturer, says that although companies understand the important of the green supply chain and green procurement, they are not achieving their own goals. The report states that 80 percent of respondents realize that green supply chains will become more important in the next three years, but their IT infrastructure and ERP solutions are not able to adapt the requirements needed to achieve the desired results. The vast majority of respondents, 87 percent, honestly claimed that data was handled at least in part through hard copy.

Despite the results of the report many companies are taking visible steps to reduce wastage and adopt a green supply chain model. High profile companies such as Wal-Mart and Apple have made attempts to not only reduce their own environmental impact, but those of their suppliers in the US and overseas. In the UK, telecommunications giant, BT, has also adopted similar aims with a green procurement strategy requiring all its suppliers to prove they are making efforts to cut their carbon emissions.
