Billion Dollar ERP System May Yet Be Completed

By February 17, 2012

The Air Forces' Expeditionary Combat Support System (ECSS) system based on the Oracle ERP platform is continuing to stumble along, but hopes of getting the project back on track are in the works. The $1 billion dollar systems replacement project was started back in 2007 and was expected to be completed by 2013. But the project delays blamed on the system integrator, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), forced the Air Force to estimate the completion to be beyond 2017.

With the on-going problems with the ECSS project, the Air Force stopped work on the final phase of the project last September. This led to CSC removing 165 consultants from the project; laying off 114 employees in Ohio. But now an Air Force spokeswoman wrote in an email response to questions from the Dayton Daily News that there will be an announcement in May concerning the restructuring of the ECSS project and getting it back on track. This will include a new estimate of the total cost for completion and hopefully a revised end date.
