A report by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu entitled "2013 Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index" finds that the US will slip to fifth place from third in manufacturing competitiveness in the next five years as India and Brazil overtake. The report is based on 558 interviews with top executives in 38 nations. The report sees that China will retain the top stop with India and Brazil completing the top three spots, while Japan is not even in the top 10.
The "league table" shows the prediction of manufacturing competitiveness in five years time: - China
- India - up from 4th one year ago
- Brazil - up from 8th one year ago
- Germany - now the only European nation in the top 15
- USA - sliding from 3rd to 5th in one year
- South Korea
- Taiwan
- Canada
- Singapore
- Vietnam - up from 18th a year ago
