Stock Keeping Unit

Definition: A Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) is a number assigned to an item that describes its unique characteristics. Each organization determines its own system for creating meaningful SKU numbers. Two items should never have the same SKU number.
Also Known As: UPC Code
Examples: For a fashion item, a SKU number would represent a unique size / style / color combination. For example, a white men's shirt with french cuffs, a size 16 neck and a size 34 sleeve could be assinged the number 1-04-16-34. The '1' represents the color white and the '04' represents the french cuff style.
