Logistics Strategy
- We have a logistics strategy, but keeping to it seems to be poor. Our company responds quickly to changes in the economy and fails to abide by the recommendations set in the logistics strategy.

Many Slices Make Up The Whole Pie
- England Logistics has a multitude of divisions making a single strategy difficult to create. Therefore, a strategy is best developed for specific divisions with the overall goal in mind. Specific divisional growth and strategy tactics that work for one group can be applied to others keeping in mind that not all things are equal. England Logistics also offers supply chain management services for manufacturers during which a logistics strategy is developed andimplemented on a case by case basis. This strategy is highly measurable. Technology and analytics prove to be a large part of making sure your logistics strategy is working and sustainable for the year or even longer term. Ultimately, a well thought out plan with clear goals is a sure way to keep your business moving forward even when there are bumps in the road. Your strategy needs to be flexible and responsive but understanding the end goal and having everyone on the same page can be the major difference maker.

What's YOUR starting point?
- Most of the issues I ran into when working on new logistics strategies for large corporations came down to one single thing. They all wanted several improvements, cost savings and better service levels. BUT it had to be covered by what ever they had in place AND without any mayor changes to their operations and IT systems. For most of these companies this way of working resulted in costly custom build (bespoke) IT systems, no flexibility to change and impossible service levels. We believe that the starting point for a good logistics strategy is.. to take a step back. Do an assessment and maybe you can do without expensive 2 hour 'Advanced SWAP', now that your avg product price has dropped 70%. After your assessment you are in a position to create a solid strategy (lose what you don’t need) and build it back up from there. And to stay on top: after a while you take a step back.. review.. and start over again. Tip: Stay flexible with a generic IT solution (move away from bespoke).

YES STRATEGY IMPLEMENTED
- Logistics strategy is implemented but it is only up to highest level not at bottom level. I think it should be crystal clear for all.

Excellent Strategy
- Our company worked a long time to get a strategy for our logistics function and supply chain. We have monthly meetings where we discuss what needs to be done to update our policies to fit the strategy or whether the strategy needs to be changed. It is a good thing that was done.

Logistics Consultancy
- Really great article about the importance of logistics strategy. Logistics consultants are a great way to build an effective strategy. A particularly good company is WMS Consultants , which is dedicated to the supply chain market.

Is there a perfect logistics strategy?
- Is there a perfect logistics strategy? I am often left wondering about this question.

Strategy Out of Date
- Our company has a logistics strategy that is made up of a number of old strategy statements, some of them mention systems that were decommissioned years ago. I talked to our VP of supply chain and he isn't worried about them being so out of date. Is this something my company should be concerned about?

Is there any books on this subject
- I have read the article and I was wondering if any readers had seen or heard of any books on the subject of Logistics Strategies. This is a good start but I am sure I will need more information to go to the Supply Chain Committee at our company.

Strategy Is Too Complicated
- We have a logistics strategy that is far too complicated as it incorporates all aspects of the business, including some that are not traditionally called logistics. The logistics strategy does not achieve much for our company and each department has their own strategy which is better. So in the supply chain team we have a "mission statement" which is more like a strategy as it plans out what we are aiming to do in the next year. However it needs to be updated as we did not fulfill last years commitments.

How often do you update the strategy
- We have been working with a logistics strategy that was developed back when we put out SAP system in, which was 2002. I think that the Logistics Strategy needs to be updated at least once a year. Is this too often or not enough?
